Your Gifts In Action
The generosity of our community is evidenced throughout the Queens General Hospital. In addition to the recent purchase of a new building, community donations over the years have funded a wide array of equipment and facility upgrades for the Queens General Hospital that enhance the care of our loved ones.
Facility Upgrades
- $7.5 million towards the 2014 modernization of the Queens General Hospital.
Equipment
- The Foundation regularly purchases innovative diagnostic equipment to improve inpatient and outpatient care. To date, the Foundation has committed over $3 million dollars to procure life-changing healthcare equipment for the Queens General Hospital.
Community
- To date, our Foundation has supported multiple health initiatives in the community. This includes support for the Queens Care Society, hiring recreational staff from Queens Manor to work with patients at the Queens General Hospital twice a week, and the creation of summer jobs for grade 12 students with an interest in medicine.
Our Recent Projects
Increasing the capacity of the Queens General Hospital.
The Queens General Hospital Foundation has recently purchased the medical and dental clinic at 157 School Street in Liverpool, next to the Queens General Hospital. The new space will complement the outstanding health services that our community is fortunate to receive from the Queens General Hospital. Learn more.
Renovation project to outfit state-of-the-art digital x-ray machine.
The Foundation is proud to have transformed the radiology department in a recent renovation at the Queens General Hospital, to accommodate a new $600,000 digital x-ray machine (shown by X-ray technicians Sandra and Natasha). This new technology will improve image quality and allow doctors to perform a greater number of procedures, in a shorter amount of time. The radiologists at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater will now be able to read the X-ray immediately and provide doctors at Queens General Hospital with their expert opinion right away. The X-ray staff who spend a majority of their time in the rooms were given the opportunity to choose the colour for the X-ray room floors. Learn more.
Summer Jobs for Young Aspiring Health Care Professionals.
The Foundation is proud to provide real-world experience to high school seniors interested in the health care professions in Queens County through our summer jobs program. Each summer, four high school seniors with an interest in pursuing a career in health care have the opportunity to work in a clinical setting with patients, physicians, and nurses at Queens General Hospital.
Recent Cafeteria Renovation.
The Foundation recently completed a $60,000 renovation to the Queens General Hospital cafeteria to provide a more welcoming space for patients, visiting family and friends, and staff. New tables, chairs, kitchen appliances, a fresh coat of paint and the installation of new floors turned the cafeteria into a warm and welcoming space. Beautiful artwork is featured around cafeteria and a wall-mounted TV helps anyone who visits feel at home. Shown on the left is Dorothy Peach, the hospital cook (she makes great cookies) and Tina McPherson (food service worker).
Electric Powered Blood Collection Chairs
This summer the Foundation purchased two electric powered blood collection chairs for the laboratory. Pictured is Medical Lab Assistant Kathy Bungay. Color choice was decided by lab staff.
State of the Art Floor Cleaner and Polisher
The Foundation this year purchased a state of the art floor cleaner and polisher. After a first pass it cleans and dries the floor ready to walk on. It is compact enough to clean patient rooms. For infection control clean floors are a must. Shown here are Stephen and Vicki who are hospital maintenance workers doing a great job keeping our hospital spick and span. They appreciate the Foundation supplying this ergonomically friendly equipment for them.
New Rehabilitation Centre Equipment.

Julie (physiotherapist) and Lisa (booking clerk) showing off the new rebab equipment.
Over the past 10 years the Foundation has funded the purchase of more than $500,000 of equipment for the Rehabilitation Department at Queens General Hospital. Recently purchased equipment includes, electric powered parallel bars, making it easier for physiotherapists to adjust for each patient’s physique; new walkers for use on the medical floor at QGH, helping patients move around the hospital with ease due to the hydraulic mechanisms. Thanks to the support of our community, rehabilitation patients benefit from some of the best available equipment.
